What began as a mirage of inspiration, Flara K is now the alias of singer-songwriter Sam Martel. Having spent the last three years embedded in the Montreal bedroom pop scene, co-writing and featuring alongside acts such as Edwin Raphael, Claire Ridgely, Matt Rogers of Fleece, and Poolboy of Clay & Friends, Flara K has become an extension of her creative self as she prepares for the debut full-length album in 2024.
Produced alongside long time collaborator Collin Steinz (2023 Juno award winner), Flara K’s first releases have garnered over a million streams across platforms along with placements on CBC’s Afterdark, CBC’s Q with Thomas Power, BBC Introducing, as well as editorial placements across DSP such as New Music Friday, Montreal Chill, Mood Ring, and more. At the end of 2022, Flara K signed a publishing deal with Red Brick Songs to help with sync and playlist pitching for new releases.
Her main focus has always been to find her most creative and true form of self expression and along the way she has intertwined her soulful RnB musical background with modern day pop influences to create a unique sound that can only be hers.
"With an ethereal soundscape, an irresistibly funky bassline and glossy, harmony-led hooks that’ll get stuck in your head for days at a time, “Rumours & Doubts” certainly sounds like the product of a band with confidence… in fact, it sounds like the product of a band with unabashed, vibey swagger. Clad with ‘00s-inspired fashion and blissful R&B-esque vocals, it’s a fine encapsulation of all the amazing things bubbling up in modern pop and electronic circles."
